Dr. Dave Hutson has almost 30 years of practical experience working in various leadership roles at multiple levels within the sport industry, including intercollegiate associate athletic director, intercollegiate and interscholastic head cross country and track and field coach, intramural director, and owner and director of summer camps. 

The valuable experience he gained in these roles has allowed him to share his professional expertise and knowledge in teaching numerous sport management and sport leadership courses and mentoring students for approximately 25 years. 

Hutson researches the multi-faceted sport industry and has conducted research in organized youth sport, unsupervised youth sport and play, intercollegiate and interscholastic athletics, international sport, sport leadership, and sport ethics. 

Hutson earned a doctorate degree in global sport leadership from East Tennessee State University, a master’s degree in sport administration with an emphasis in intercollegiate athletic administration from Wayne State University, and a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology with a focus on pedagogy from Harding University.

Hutson is married to Lora Hutson, who is an associate professor of mass communication at RU. They enjoy spending time with their three children, traveling to and learning about various countries and cultures throughout the world, and hiking and climbing the highest point in each state in the U.S.
