Mel and his wife Kay, have two children. Both children are teachers and both spouses are teachers; two of Kay’s siblings are teachers (her parents are teachers) and Mel’s sister is a teacher. They have five grandchildren, but none are teachers –yet. Before coming to Rochester University, Mel worked in public education for 38 years with Rochester Community Schools. In his free time, Mel enjoys gardening, reading, listening to a wide range of music, basketball (watching) and evening walks.
