Rochester, MI – The Rochester Regional Chamber of Commerce announced a new partnership with Chief Financial Credit Union and Rochester University at this year’s Community Outlook Press Conference. Rochester University, soon to be Rochester University, and Chief Financial Credit Union have partnered to become Presenting Sponsors of the Rochester Area Hometown Christmas Parade for the next three years.
“This investment in such an important community event will ensure that the parade will go on in style and excellence,” said Alaina Campbell, president of Rochester Regional Chamber of Commerce.
The parade, a beloved, long-standing tradition attracts tens of thousands to the Rochester area on the first Sunday in December. The Rochester Area Hometown Christmas Parade, which was founded by the Lion’s Club in the 1950s, became a part of the Chamber’s annual event calendar in the early 1960s. It is cited as the largest Christmas parade in Michigan. Spectators watch as more than 100 floats, marching bands and community groups walk down Rochester Road, anticipating the final float, graciously donated by Bordine’s Nursey, welcoming Santa and Mrs. Claus to kick off the holiday season.
“For six decades, the Rochester community has been our neighbor and friend, and as we celebrate our 60th anniversary, we are delighted to support this family-friendly, regionally recognized event,” said Dr. Brian Stogner, president of Rochester University. Rochester University is transitioning to become Rochester University to reflect its expanded academics, productive interfaith dialogue, and growing athletic programs and facilities. A Christian institution, RU has more than 1,100 students and will finish its transition to university status by August 2020.
As you can imagine, it takes significant resources to produce a parade of this size and caliber, which would not be possible without numerous sponsors, and Chamber members who contribute financially and donate countless volunteer hours. This year’s parade will take place on the second Sunday in December, December 8.
“When we moved our headquarters to the greater Rochester area, we committed to becoming a true community partner,” said Tom Dluzen, CEO of Chief Financial. “We strive to fulfill that commitment through our extensive community involvement, and we are honored to add carrying on the tradition of the Hometown Christmas Parade. See you at the Parade!”
