Common Data Set
The Common Data Set is a collaborative effort among higher education data providers and publishers to improve the quality and accuracy of information provided to those involved in a student’s transition into higher education. It contains information on student enrollment and persistence, admission, academic offerings, student life, annual expenses, financial aid, faculty and instruction, and degrees conferred.
On an annual basis, every educational institution that participates in federal financial aid programs submits a variety of reports to the U.S. Department of Education. Those IPEDS reports include data on enrollment, program completions, graduation rates, faculty and staff, finances, institutional pricing, and student financial aid. Summaries from these reports are made available to students and parents through the College Navigator website.
