At the 2018 Partnership Dinner, Rochester University acknowledged Troy Butler as our 2018 Alumnus of the Year. Troy Butler graduated from Rochester University in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work. He then went on and received his Master’s degree from Sienna Heights University.
In 2001, Troy and his family started the Troy Butler Endowed Scholarship for students majoring in social work and have donated almost $33,000 for the fund. Troy comes back RU yearly to teach one of Mrs. Reddick’s social work classes and get to know the students.
Troy’s disability has not held him back from getting involved in his local community. He is a peer mentor for the mentally disabled at Macomb Oakland Regional Center, he is an active member and special needs family minister at Faith Apostolic of Troy and is working on his minister’s license, Troy is a member of Toastmasters International, and works with Oakland County Recipient Rights, all while being proud papa to Paws Finley Marie (his dog). Troy is involved in many community and church activities, but he says above all is his love for the Lord is the most important.
