Program Overview

The mission of the Master of Arts degree program in Clinical Psychology at Rochester Christian University is to educate students in a clinical, scientist-practitioner model through research-oriented training. The program prepares students to apply for a Master’s level Limited License in Psychology in the State of Michigan.

Faculty are actively involved with students in research and clinical practice. Students will attain the theoretical, scientific, technical and personal experience needed for the practice of clinical psychology for treatment, assessment and research for diverse populations with appropriate mentorship and supervision and to develop the necessary skills for potentially entering a doctoral program.

degree requirements

The program’s basic design is to provide training that promotes an overall knowledge of the discipline, basic clinical skills, and establishing an identity as a professional in the field of psychology. It is particularly appropriate for students who need advanced work to strengthen their profiles in preparation for application to Ph.D. programs or for those who wish to explore graduate level work before making a commitment to Ph.D. training.

Successful completion of the program requires students to complete the following:

  • All MA-Clinical Psychology curriculum courses at a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
  • Satisfactory practice evaluations in clinical practicum.
  • Approval and successful oral defense of thesis.
  • No more than two courses with a grade of C or less.
  • A student may not repeat a class more than once.
  • Remain in good standing to graduate.
  • A student must satisfactorily complete all requirements within six years of being admitted into the graduate program.

The master of arts degree requires a minimum of 42 credits of graduate-level coursework, including required courses and clinical practicum. The required courses are designed to provide students with a thorough background in the major theories and findings in clinical psychology and research.

alumni testimonial

I did exceptionally well in graduate school because I was ahead of most of my peers (even those who had graduated from big universities). When I started the program, many of my peers had not even heard of some of the concepts I learned in my classes at RCU. I was also confident enough to teach a two-hour lecture for one of my first class assignments because of the oral presentation practice I obtained at RCU.
