Scholarships and Grants

Rochester University is pleased to offer students institutional scholarship and grant opportunities. All institutional scholarships are reviewed on an annual basis. Modifications for future incoming classes will not change your scholarship award. All institutional scholarships are available for fall and spring semesters only. Awards shall be applied directly against the recipient’s educational expenses at a rate of 50% for the Fall semester and 50% for the Spring semester. The total of all institutional aid for residential students may not exceed 100% of tuition, room, board, and fees. Please note that only full-time students (minimum of 12 hours) are eligible for institutional aid.

Merit-Based Awards

Exceptional students may also qualify for Merit-Based Awards. Students may receive no more than one merit award.

All institutional merit scholarships are reviewed on an annual basis. Modifications for future incoming classes will not change your merit award. All institutional scholarships are available for Fall and Spring semesters only. Awards shall be applied directly against the recipient’s educational expenses at a rate of 50% for the Fall semester and 50% for the Spring semester.

Transfer scholarships are based on the student’s college transfer GPA and may not change throughout their time as a student at Rochester University. “First time at any college” students’ academic scholarships are based on their high school GPA and ACT scores and will remain unchanged throughout their time as a student at Rochester University.

Deadline dates represent risk dates. If you complete the application requirements after this date, the award may not be available due to limited funding.

Note: While many colleges only offer their scholarships for four years, Rochester University offers their scholarships for up to five years. So if you change your major or want to add a minor which takes you more than four years to complete, our scholarships will be there for you in year five.

Students may receive no more than one of the following discounts

  • Christian Academy/School Graduate Discount if_right_arrow_476325_white
    • Eligibility: Awarded to first time RU students under age 24 who graduated from an accredited Christian High School.

    • Amount: $500/year

    • Renewal requirements: 2.0 CPGA

  • Family Tuition Discount if_right_arrow_476325_white
    • Eligibility: Awarded if two or more dependent children or a parent and child are concurrently enrolled full time

    • Amount: $1,000 per year

    • Renewal Requirements: Continued enrollment of two or more immediate family members as verified by the registrar. Minimum of 2.0 CGPA.

  • Children of Ministers Scholarship if_right_arrow_476325_white
    • First time RU students under age 24 who are dependent children of full-time ministers (pulpit, youth, worship) or foreign missionaries (working under the supervision and support of a Christian Church in the United States, letter from supporting congregation required annually) and who have served in that capacity for at least 3 years. Discount application form as well as youth census list (9th-12th) from your home congregation must be submitted annually.

    • Amount: $2,000/year

    • Renewal Requirements: Discount application form as well as youth census list (9th-12th) from your home congregation must be submitted annually. Must remain full-time boarding student and maintain 2.0 CGPA.

  • Alexander & Elfrieda Oz Endowed Scholarship if_right_arrow_476325_white
    • Eligibility: Through generous funds provided by the estate of Alexander & Elfrieda Oz, Rochester University offers an endowed scholarship for full time students of Rochester University with at least 12 credit hours and pursuing a college level degree. Minimum GPA of 3.0 throughout high school and college. First consideration will be given to the Oz family.

  • Alumni Parent Scholarship if_right_arrow_476325_white
    • Eligibility: At least one parent must have attended Rochester University on a full-time basis for at least four semesters.

    • Amount: $1,000/year

  • Associates Permanent Scholarship if_right_arrow_476325_white
    • Eligibility: Through generous funds provided by the Associates of Rochester University, Rochester University offers a permanent scholarship for full time students of Rochester University that meet the following requirements:

      Student earned a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 during five consecutive semesters of high school
      College GPA must be at least a 2.75
      Must exemplify Christ in every aspect of life. Benefits will be terminated immediately when recipient is known to gamble, use profanity, alcoholic beverages, and/or tobacco on or off campus

  • David Weaver Memorial Scholarship if_right_arrow_476325_white
    • Eligibility: Scholarship is awarded to a student who has lost a sibling, or a student planning on going into full-time Christian service (i.e. a missionary or a pastor)

  • General Rochester University Scholarship Application if_right_arrow_476325_white
    • Eligibility: This scholarship is for new incoming freshmen and transfer students of Rochester University seeking financial assistance for the 2019-2020 academic year. These scholarships require that you complete the FAFSA and the General Scholarship Application by May 1 each year.

  • Noah Robert Mabey Scholarship if_right_arrow_476325_white
    • Eligibility: Through generous funds provided by friends and family of Noah Robert Mabey, Rochester University offers an annual scholarship for students who are currently English majors with a Theatre minor, have a 3.0 GPA, and the recipient should exemplify a passion for the arts, including writing, theatre and literature. Additionally, awardee should demonstrate noticeable character and compassion with a sense of humor while willingly participating in Rochester University and a general commitment to be inclusive and serving others.

  • President Garfield Endowed Scholarship if_right_arrow_476325_white
    • Eligibility: Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:

      • Student interested in history and preserving the values set forth by the Founding Fathers.
      • Interested in political science and being active in conservative politics.
      • Interested in being informed and being involved in supporting and promoting legislation that honors the sanctity of life including the unborn child, the elderly, and the terminally ill.
      • Interested in supporting and promoting legislation that honors the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman.
      • Student must be a committed Christian, having been immersed for the forgiveness of sins.
      • Student must be conservative in manner and appearance (no visible body piercing other than one per ear for females, no tattoos, no unnatural hair colors, etc).
      • Must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA in high school and/or college work completed. Final determination for the scholarship recipient will be based on submission of a 1,000 word essay which should include the student’s political philosophy, future plans.
      • Three letters of reference should be submitted with application.

  • Pure Oakland Water Scholarship if_right_arrow_476325_white
    • Eligibility: Through generous funds provided by Pure Oakland Water, Rochester University offers an annual scholarship for students who are currently biology majors, have a 3.0 GPA, are sophomore status or higher, and preferably an Oakland County resident

    • Eligibility: Through generous funds provided by the family of Ross William Trinklein, Rochester University offers an endowed scholarship for full time students of Rochester University that meet the following requirements:

      Required minimum GPA of 3.0
      Be service oriented and exhibiting evangelistic qualities
      Completed at minimum 60 hours at Rochester University

  • Royce Dickinson Endowed Scholarship if_right_arrow_476325_white
    • Eligibility: Rochester University offers an endowed scholarship for full time students of Rochester University that meet the following requirements:

      Student must demonstrate high moral standards
      Must have a 2.8 GPA to receive the award and 3.0 GPA to maintain the award
      Scholarship recipients are encouraged, but not required to contribute to the Royce Dickinson Endowed Scholarship Fund.

  • Royce Dickinson Jr. Memorial Graduate Scholarship if_right_arrow_476325_white
    • Eligibility: Rochester University offers an endowed scholarship for:

      • Student must be accepted for studies in the graduate religion department
      • Must demonstrate academic and moral worthiness
      • Award based on financial need
      • Must possess a 3.0 GPA in undergraduate work* In the event there are no sufficient candidates for this scholarship in the graduate school, undergraduate students majoring in Bible will be considered

  • Social Entrepreneurship Major Scholarship if_right_arrow_476325_white
    • Eligibility: Through generous funding provided by the Stewart Team Real Estate, Rochester University offers a scholarship for students who are current social entrepreneurship major (SE Majors), or who have been accepted to Rochester University and have declared social entrepreneurship as their major.

    • Amount: RU awards $5,000 annually to one or more individuals that meet the criteria of the scholarship.
