Warrior Spotlight: Roserita Washington

Roserita Washington, Early Childhood Education major, has big ambitions. She has goals of opening up her own preschool and being a lead Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) teacher.  With her track record, she is definitely on her way. She is currently gaining observation hours at Kiddy Korner in Clinton Township, and previously worked at the Goddard school in Shelby Township for 4 years, both GSRP programs. She has known she wanted to be a teacher since she was a kid and started studying early childhood education in high school through a teacher cadet program, a program that allowed her to student teach.

Washington earned her associate degree in early childhood studies at Macomb Community College before transferring over 60 credits to Rochester Christian University. She says the affordability combined with Christian-based classes is what makes Rochester Christian University unique. In addition, she says, “I like that Rochester is accelerated because I can complete my bachelor’s in less than 2 years. I like that it’s online–online makes it really convenient.”

Washington would also like to earn her master’s or doctorate degree in Early Childhood Studies. “I am passionate about family and working with children, [and] to make sure the children feel safe and loved. I like to make sure they can feel comfortable with me, and give them benefits they are not getting at home,” Washington said.
